Author Services

You Wrote the Book. Now What?

Finishing a manuscript is a tremendous accomplishment. But for many writers, reaching The End brings an entirely new set of questions.

  • Does my manuscript need another set of eyes?
  • How do I turn a Word document into an actual book?
  • What size should my book be?
  • What are margins, gutters, and bleed?
  • How do I prepare everything for Amazon KDP?
  • And how do I know I've done it correctly?

Open Spaces Publishing Author Services can help.

I offer personalized assistance to independent and first-time authors who want help taking their finished manuscripts from draft to publication.

You remain the author. You retain ownership of your work, publishing accounts, rights, and royalties. My role is simply to help you navigate the road between finishing your manuscript and holding your book in your hands.

Manuscript Review

Sometimes a manuscript needs something more useful than another spell-check: it needs another reader.

I'll review your completed manuscript and provide thoughtful feedback on areas such as:

  • Story structure and organization
  • Character development and consistency
  • Pacing
  • Continuity
  • Clarity and readability
  • Areas that may need additional development
  • Sections that may be confusing or unnecessary
  • Overall reader experience

You'll receive an organized editorial assessment identifying both the strengths of the manuscript and opportunities for improvement.

Best for: Authors who have completed a manuscript but want objective feedback before beginning final revisions.

Pricing: Based on manuscript length and scope.

Manuscript Editing & Preparation

When the story is finished, the manuscript still needs to be prepared for publication.

This service focuses on improving the readability and consistency of your manuscript while preserving your individual writing voice.

Depending on the project, this may include:

  • Grammar and punctuation
  • Sentence clarity and flow
  • Repetition
  • Consistency
  • Chapter organization
  • Formatting inconsistencies
  • Continuity concerns
  • General manuscript cleanup

Before beginning, we'll establish exactly what level of assistance your manuscript needs and what is included in your project.

Pricing: Based on word count and level of editing required.

Book Formatting

Your manuscript shouldn't just read like a book. It should look like one.

I'll prepare your completed manuscript for print publication, including:

  • Interior page layout
  • Trim-size setup
  • Margins and gutters
  • Chapter openings
  • Page numbering
  • Headers and footers
  • Front and back matter
  • Typography and spacing
  • Print-ready PDF preparation
  • KDP compatibility review

Formatting is available for novels, novellas, memoirs, nonfiction, and other text-based books. Illustrated and specialty books may require a custom quote.

Pricing: Based on book length and complexity.

Amazon KDP Publishing Assistance

Amazon KDP can be intimidating the first time you see it.

I'll help you understand and navigate the publication process, including:

  • Paperback and hardcover setup
  • ISBN options
  • Trim sizes and print options
  • Book descriptions and metadata
  • Categories and keywords
  • Pricing considerations
  • Interior and cover-file requirements
  • Upload preparation
  • KDP previewer review
  • Proof-copy process
  • Final publication checklist

Your KDP account remains yours.

You maintain control of your account, copyright, royalties, pricing, and publishing decisions. Open Spaces Publishing provides guidance and assistance throughout the process.

From Manuscript to Bookshelf

Looking for help with the entire process?

For authors who don't want to piece everything together themselves, a complete publication-preparation package is available.

Depending on your project, this may include:

Manuscript Review → Editing & Preparation → Interior Formatting → Cover-File Preparation → KDP Setup Assistance → Proof Review → Publication Guidance

We'll determine exactly what your book needs before work begins.

You remain in control of your book throughout the entire process.

Custom quote required.

Optional Book Launch Services

Once your book is ready for readers, limited promotional assistance may also be available, including:

  • Book-launch graphics
  • Social-media promotional graphics
  • Promotional copy
  • Book descriptions
  • Announcement materials
  • Simple book-trailer videos

These services may be purchased separately or added to a publication package.

Every Book Is Different

A 25,000-word memoir and a 100,000-word novel don't require the same amount of work. Neither do a straightforward novel and a fully illustrated children's book.

That's why I don't believe every author should be pushed into the same package.

Tell me a little about your book, where you are in the process, and where you need help. I'll review your project and let you know what services may be appropriate before you make a commitment.
